Here are some of the important milestones in the history of Essential Systems:

1984 – Essential Systems was founded by college friends Bob Kaule and John Todhunter. Their first project was systems integration work for GE Lighting Research.

1980's – Work on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

1992 – Designed and implemented the award winning automatic vehicle identification system at the Pittsburgh International Airport

1998 – Dan Gynn joined the company after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh

1999 – Work on the SUNPASS system

2002 – Dan joined Bob and John as Essential Systems' business partners
